The Challenge
Energy Innovation is a non-partisan climate and energy policy think tank built on a clear conviction: climate action runs through data-informed policy solutions. Their work supports federal and state policymakers, regulators, and the journalists who cover them, providing the evidence base for the most consequential policy decisions of our time. But their digital presence didn't reflect the rigor of the work. Their policy recommendations were fractured across a bloated and uninspired framework. The design didn't match the institution's standing. And the data at the heart of their mission was hard to find.
The Approach
We organized the platform around the four sectors of the U.S. economy responsible for the most climate pollution: electricity, buildings, transportation, and industry. Within each sector, we structured the policy recommendations by topic, giving policymakers a clear path from problems to solutions. Intuitive content types brought cohesion to the user experience. We featured the Energy Policy Simulator, Energy Innovation's open-source policy modeling tool, making it accessible to policymakers and journalists. A new messaging framework positioned Energy Innovation's expertise with the clarity and urgency its work demands. And a modern, professional design system gave the institute a visual presence that reflects the standing of a trusted voice in climate and energy policy.
